Sherry Lawson (nee Douglas), a storyteller, is the
middle daughter of
an Ojibway father and
Algonkian mother. Raised on the Mnjikaning (Rama) First Nation near
Orillia in the very lean 1950's and 60's, Sherry continues to live her
life by the teachings of her father, paternal grandmother, and ancient
community. Trained in Library and Information Science, Museum Studies
and Anthropology, Sherry has held interesting positions for municipal,
provincial and federal governments, and has won numerous awards for her
volunteer work.Sherry is the author of two autobiographical books, "I've Been Shot At, What's Your Excuse?" and "Don't Stand Too Close! You Might Get Some On You."
A sought-after public speaker and now a grandmother of three, Sherry believes it important to leave behind a record of the stories of her people, the great Ojibway. She will be sharing her stories with us on the second evening of the Symposium.
